This is how Allen Parkway got its name

August 26, 1836: On this day, brothers John Kirby and Augustus Allen purchased more than 6,600 acres of land along the west bank of the Buffalo Bayou, for which, they are considered to be co-founders of Houston. The Allen brothers were originally from New York but made their way to Texas settling in Nacogdoches in 1833 operating as land speculators.
