BENNINGTON >> A Vermont man is being charged with wire fraud in a Florida district court after texting a defense witness in a manslaughter trial that he could have a relative assure a hung jury for $500,000 or an acquittal for $1 million. James Perron, 48, of Tinmouth, was arrested near Albany on Oct. 26, according to an affidavit filed by the FBI on Nov. 7. According to the affidavit, Kris Kampsen, a resident of Wellington, Florida, and a defense witness in the manslaughter retrial of John Goodman, the Houston-based billionaire and founder of the Polo Club International, received a text from a phone originating from Clarendon, Vt., on Oct. 21, asking if he could deliver a private message to Goodman.
