SUMMARY OF 500 AM HST...1500 UTC...INFORMATION ---------------------------------------------- LOCATION...12.3N 129.8W ABOUT 1500 MI...2410 KM WSW OF THE SOUTHERN TIP OF BAJA CALIFORNIA ABOUT 1755 MI...2820 KM ESE OF HILO HAWAII MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...40 MPH...65 KM/H PRESENT MOVEMENT...W OR 275 DEGREES AT 17 MPH...28 KM/H MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...1005 MB...29.68 INCHES WATCHES AND WARNINGS -------------------- There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Erick was located near latitude 12.3 North, longitude 129.8 West. Erick is moving toward the west near 17 mph (28 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue for the next few days with a slight decrease in forward speed. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast, and Erick is expected to become a hurricane by late Monday with continued strengthening through Tuesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb (29.68 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
