Turkish Airlines considers itself the strongest airline in southern Europe and it wants to strengthen ties with its Star Alliance partner in northern Europe, Lufthansa. Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa tried to warm up to one another in 2012 without success but the dramatic growth of the Gulf carriers in the interim and their expansion plans makes a marriage now more convenient.
