Since mid-February, four trains hauling crude oil have derailed in the United States and Canada; rupturing tank cars, spilling their contents, polluting waterways and igniting fires that burned for days. The derailments have deepened safety concerns in cities such as Turlock, where city leaders said if an oil train accident were to take place, the results could be disastrous.
