Science Recorder: Corn, the backbone of much of the American Midwest, may be more vulnerable to droughts than it was just two decades ago, according to a new study published in the journal Science. The study was conducted by David Lobell, an associate professor of environmental Earth science at Stanford University. "The Corn Belt is phenomenally productive," said Lobell in a statement to PHYS.Org News, "but in the past two decades we saw very small yield gains in non-irrigated corn under the hottest conditions....
