Washington, DC, United States - Improved job growth and lower fuel prices prompted consumers to increase spending this summer, lifting sales at U.S. retailers in August. Retail sales in the U.S. climbed by 0.6 percent in August from the prior month, boosted by automobile purchases, according to the Commerce Department report released Friday.
