UK TV ownership falls to 40-year low

2015-06-29 12:02:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The latest data from industry ratings body BARB shows that UK ownership of traditional TV sets has fallen to its lowest level since 1972, reports the Sunday Times. A total of 1.72 million households declared that they did not have a TV set in Q1 2015, up by 150,000 from Q4 2014. This means that 93.7 percent of homes have a TV set, the lowest proportion since 1972 and down from more than 96 percent in 2013. The fall comes as more viewers exploit a legal loophole by watching only catch-up TV services, rather than live programmes, to avoid paying the GBP 145.50 licence fee.
