US government blocks Intel, Chinese collaboration over nuclear fears, national security

The US government has effectively killed a planned upgrade to the most powerful supercomputer in the world over claims that it's being used for banned research. The Chinese-built Tianhe-2 was set to be updated with new Xeon Phi hardware, but that's not going to happen for the foreseeable future.
