US stocks edge mostly higher in early trading

Stocks are eking out slight gains in early trading as the market builds on a modest climb from the day before. Salesforce.com jumped 9 percent after delivering a strong forecast for the year, and Newfield Exploration rose 6 percent after its earnings came in ahead of what analysts were expecting.
