University of Maryland experiments with open-source textbooks

2014-03-26 13:34:00| American School & University

The University System of Maryland is responding to student complaints about the ever-increasing cost of textbooks by experimenting with open-source electronic books, the Baltimore Sun reported. Open-source textbooks include materials from various sources, including links to other materials, and they are not protected by copyright. A pilot program indicates that open-source electronic books could save students about $120 on textbooks per semester. Schoolhouse Beat
