In a distressing trend, Coldwater Creek recently announced that it will be liquidating its stores entirely. This represents over 350 stores that will be disappearing within malls throughout the country. Large-scale closures have also been announced by teen retailers Aeropostale (over 150 stores) and Abercrombie & Fitch, which will be attempting to overhaul its Hollister brand to a fast-fashion concept. Abercrombie is also giving up on its Gilly Hicks intimate apparel division. And the strip center-based value apparel retailer Dots is also liquidating its 300-plus retail locations.
