Volkswagen AG has suspended a larger number of engineers than previously acknowledged--from board-level executives to low-level technicians--following a recommendation from the law firm conducting an internal investigation into the auto maker's emissions cheating scandal, according to a person familiar with the matter. Volkswagen commissioned Jones Day, a U.S.-based law firm with offices in Germany, last month to conduct an investigation into how illegal software used to dupe emissions tests in the U.S. and Europe could have been installed on nearly 11 million vehicles.
