Virgin Media to offer Netflix over Tivo box

2013-09-10 09:22:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) UK cable operator Virgin Media announced plans to launch Netflix over its Tivo platform. Virgin said this is the first time Netflix will be available on a pay-TV platform. The service will be launched as an app on the Tivo box, initially in a pilot starting the week of 09 September. Virgin said Netflix compliments its existing offer of video-on-demand titles and catch-up TV services, as well as premium film channels. The pilot begins with around 40,000 Virgin Media Tivo households already selected to use the Netflix app. Netflix subscribers can log-in using their existing Netflix credentials, and new customers can sign up for Netflix via the app. Netflix will be rolled out to all 1.7 million Virgin Media Tivo customers following the completion of the pilot later this year. Netflix launched in the UK last year and is estimated to have around 1.5 million subscribers there.
