Vodafone Netherlands launches 4G in big cities

2013-08-05 10:41:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Vodafone Netherlands has launched its 4G network in four major cities and announced speed upgrades for all its customers. The LTE service is available initially in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht, making Vodafone the second operator in the Netherlands after KPN to offer 4G. Postpaid customers will also see an upgrade in speed to at least 7.2 Mbps over the 3G network, and prepaid customers will get the same speeds from September. New customers taking out a Red subscription plan will get access to the LTE network immediately, and Vodafone will connect existing Red customers to 4G in the course of this month. Vodafone is using a combination of 800 MHz and 1,800 MHz band frequencies for the 4G service in order to offer wide coverage both outside and indoors. The service offers a theoretical maximum speed of 50 Mbps and average speeds of 10-15 Mbps.
