Splashing out on a new Mercedes-Benz doesn't seem beyond the reach of many Kiwis these days, with luxury car sales having almost doubled in the past five years. But whether that's because of improved economic confidence, increased wealth because of the housing boom or people feeling the need for speed is not so clear.
