Weak car sales point to financial strain

THERE are early signs that financial pressure on households and deteriorating consumer confidence, caused by a lacklustre economic outlook, have started to bite into new passenger car sales growth. Figures released yesterday revealed that new car sales fell last month by 5.4 percent to 31 201 units from the 32 974 new cars sold in May last year.
