For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Web Developer Internet Services Software Engineer. The key person shall work in the Data Services Engineering Team and will report to the Data Services Engineering Team Leader. The tasks of the key person will be carried out mainly at EUMETSAT facilities in Darmstadt, but travel within Europe may be required for certain activities. Tasks As a member of the GSI Data Services Engineering Team, the key person shall provide support for routine operations but also for evolution and maintenance of the web application based data services. The duties range from the support to the operation of the EUMETSAT web services such as the Internet Processing and Presentation Service IPPS, to the implementation of system tasks for handling evolutions of the provided web application services and to the maintenance of software functions maintaineddeveloped within the Data Services Engineering Team see details below. This may include the settingup and implementation of operation, maintenance and evolution policies and procedures, the support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. In particular the tasks will include in order of importance and volume of work Maintenance of the data services systems o Performing the acceptance and integration of externally developed software o Performing unit and nonregression testing o Maintaining existing system and software documentation o Liaising with companies to manage the development of systems, software developed externally o Analysing system and software anomalies o Reviewing system and software correctionsenhancements o Providing advice and guidance with respect to maintenance issues Evolution of the web application services o Analysing user requirements to derive software evolutions and enhancements o Specifying software and system requirements for supporting software and system enhancements o Designing software and systems evolutionsenhancements o Supporting the integration, verification and validation testing o Generation and maintaining technical documentation System and Software Requirements Architectural Design Interface Control Documents Software Unit and Integration Test Plans Maintenance Procedures. o Prototyping system and software evolutions o Supporting development of system, system parts or system evolutions o Participating and organising technical meetings and formal reviews. Operational Support for web application services o Monitoring the performance and behaviour o Investigating problems and raising anomalies o Providing Second Line System and Software support o DeployingInstalling software o Supportingexecuting operations and maintenance procedures change controldeployment processes o Preparation and production of routine reports. While performing these activities, the key person shall follow the relevant operations change control and maintenance procedures. Qualifications and Requirements Essential In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline, the key person must have excellent team working skills, being able to work autonomous and have good analytical skills. The key person shall have skills and experience in the following mandatory areas minimum 5 years for each System Engineering Maintenance Skills Exploitation of industry support o Liaise with industry partners in a day to day maintenance and evolution of externally developed software components o CoordinateManage externalised software development projects o Reviewaccept software project deliveries documentation, software, .... HighAvailability systems Strong technical expertise for translating user requirements into software requirements Architectural evolutions and implementation Extensive experience in software validation and verification related activities o Test procedure generation o Unit and nonregression testing o Requirements verification and validation. Software Engineering Skills Extensive experience in software development and maintenance using a formal software life cycle resulting in deliveries to customers. This includes requirements management, software design and implementation reflecting corrections and evolutions of software components Extensive experience in designing and developing software components and applications in the Java programming language under Unix Linux using Object Oriented OO approach including design patterns for web portals Extensive experience in designing and developing web based front ends using HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript and in particular popular libraries used in the Javascript eco system Experience in developing web based applications relying on a database backend RDBMS or NoSQL Experience in software development methodologies and techniques such as continuous integration, test driven development and peer reviewing. Operation Support Skills Extensive experience in the provision of second line support for operational systems, which includes the monitoring of the performance, problem investigation, coordination of resolutions and oncall support. Documentation and Software Configuration Management Skills Experience in using software configuration management, anomaly reporting and tracking tools. Software Technology Skills Java programming language Java Web based development SpringMVC, GWT in TomcatJetty HTML5CSS3Javascript jquery, bootstrap Oracle JDBC, SQL and PLSQL XML, XML Schema and XSLT technologies Software Source Code control system SubVersion Software Building and Package management ant, maven Unit testing frameworks JUnit Eclipse. Desirable Practical knowledge of as many as possible of the following skills will be an advantage Development of GIS systems allowing rendering scientific data and making those available using GIS standards such as WMS, WCS, WFS. Experience in integrating and deploying by developing glue software components COTS or open source components transforming, rendering or making use of geospatial or GIS products and especially satellite or meteorological products. Technology skills o OGC Standards such as CSW, WMS, WCS, WFS o GeoNetwork o Javascript GIS library OpenLayers, Leaflet o ScientificGIS data formats NETcdf, HDF5, geoTiff o Meteorological data formats GRIB, BUFR o Toolbased Software Design UML Enterprise Architect o Basic UnixLinux system administration. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the key person must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other.
