The World Trade Organization (WTO) recently ruled in favor of Canada and Mexico in finding that the U.S. mandatory country-of-origin labeling (COOL) law is discriminatory against those nations’ livestock. If the U.S. doesn’t bring COOL in compliance with WTO rules, it could mean Mexico and Canada can seek more than $1.5 billion in retaliatory tariffs on a wide range of U.S. exports.
