What are the chances of a hog price recovery later this year?

2013-04-11 11:21:10| National Hog Farmer

First-quarter hog prices were very disappointing, discrediting predictions that they were headed back into the black. Now that the recovery has been delayed by more pork on the market, compounded by a softening of demand and a weakening export market, what are the chances of a recovery later this year? I think prices will turn around as we hit the grilling season. Prices will recover, but profit margins will still be slim. I expect prices to remain steady but unprofitable in 2013. Without a strong harvest, we are in for a repeat of 2012 prices.
