Why stocks keep rising, despite weak corporate earnings

Companies will begin releasing their fourth-quarter earnings report cards soon, and by all accounts they will be about as exciting as cruise-ship shuffleboard - as in not very. This is all the more surprising because the U.S. economy grew at a sizzling 5 percent annual rate in the third quarter - the best in 11 years - and at a 4.6 percent rate in the second quarter.
