Windows 8s market share finally reaches 10%, but is overshadowed by Linuxs big gain and XPs decline

At long last, some 15 months after its initial release, the combined market share for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 has finally passed 10%. Buoyed by Christmas sales, the market share for Windows 8 and 8.1 at the end of December 2013 surged forward by 1.2% -- the largest single-month gain for Microsoft's kinda-mobile-kinda-desktop operating system.
