(Telecompaper) Malaysia-based Axiata Group is evaluating a bid for Axis Telekom Indonesia, writes Bloomberg citing three people with knowledge of the matter. Any offer for Axis would be made by Axiata's Indonesian unit, XL Axiata, the people said. Purchasing the Indonesian carrier would give XL Axiata additional spectrum for expansion, one person said. Faridah Hashim, a spokeswoman for Axiata, declined to comment. Saudi Telecom owns 84 percent of Axis, while Maxis holds the remainder.
