ZTE, Huawei win much of China Mobile 4G tender - report

(Telecompaper) Chinese telecommunications equipment manufacturers ZTE and Huawei have secured the bulk of a contract for the provision of 100,000 4G base stations for China Mobile, Reuters report citing two industry sources with direct knowledge of the situation. China Mobile awarded ZTE and Huawei 34 percent and 31 percent of the tender, respectively. Meanwhile, Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent both obtained 9 percent of the contract, while Nokia secured 8 percent, according to the report. China Mobile expects to award contracts for the provision of another 160,000 4G base stations later this year. China Mobile ended April with 784.61 million mobile telephony subscribers, up from 781.08 million at the end of March. The operator had 4.79 million subscribers in the 4G segment.
