Amgen Inc. shares jumped in extended trading after the maker of osteoporosis drug Prolia easily beat Wall Street's second-quarter profit expectations and hiked its 2015 financial forecast. Amgen, based in Thousand Oaks, California, said Thursday it sees strong momentum for the second half of the year, with three new drugs launching, new approvals for a couple expected soon and experimental drugs for migraines, heart failure and preventing bone fractures in or near the final rounds of patient testing.

Allergan may turn sights to Amgen or AbbVie with Teva cash

Allergan Plc says it's “reloaded and ready to move” on further acquisitions after agreeing to sell its generic-drug business for $40.5 billion. The deal with Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. “gives us a tremendous amount of flexibility to think about transformational M&A as well as continue our pattern of tuck-in acquisitions,” Allergan Chief Executive Officer Brent Saunders said on a conference call today.

Amgen today announced the submission of a supplemental New Drug Application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for Kyprolis for Injection to seek an expanded indication for the treatment of patients with a form of blood cancer, relapsed multiple myeloma, who have received at least one prior therapy. Kyprolis currently has accelerated approval in the U.S. for the treatment of patients with relapsed multiple myeloma as a monotherapy.

Amgen wins first approval for new class of cholesterol drugs

REUTERS: Amgen Inc's cholesterol fighting drug was approved by the European Commission, giving the keenly anticipated treatment a head start over a rival drug being developed by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc and Sanofi SA. This is the first approval by any regulator for PCSK9 inhibitors, a new class of biologic drugs that are injected.
