(Telecompaper) Telefonica Germany announced plans to begin its Germany-wide consolidation of the UMTS and GSM networks of O2 and E-Plus in January. In parallel, the company continues to rapidly expand its LTE network and also plans to enable joint LTE use from mid-2016. The network integration in 2016 will focus on the densely populated urban areas. In the first year of the network integration, Telefonica Deutschland already aims to reach more than 60 percent of the population with its new, integrated network. Airdata challenges Telefonica Germany's merger with E-Plus
2015-06-08 10:23:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) The proceedings for the approval of Telefonica Germany's takeover of E-Plus might be reopened as new telecom operator Airdata filed a complaint at the European Court of Justice against what it said were inadequate controls by the European Commission. According to Airdata CEO Christian Irmler, the EC should not have approved of the takeover because the commitments made by Telefonica are not enough to pursue vigorous competition. The administrative court in Cologne will deal with this matter on 10 June in a public hearing.
