Position Reference 754 We are currently looking for a Data Processing Systems and Applications Engineer to work at our clients premises in the city of Darmstadt, Germany. You will have the opportunity to assist in the engineering activities of the data processing systems and application software for the operational and future programmes within the DPSA CA, including Processing Frameworks. Tasks and Activities Your tasks will include day to day operations and maintenance, to the handling of anomalies, upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. Tasks will also contain the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures. For procurements and maintenance services provided externally, you will provide support to the management of the technical interface with the external contractors. Besides the above described routine tasks, you will also be expected to contribute to requirements specification, design and system engineeringreengineering, development and testing activities in the field of science data processing that will become necessary for existing and future production systems. The tasks will include Maintenance and development of the Data Processing SystemsApplication Software it should be noted that for many of the facilities the first line maintenance is being performed by EUMETSAT in conjunction with the industrial contractor the second line maintenance is being performed by the industrial contractor under supervision and with support from EUMETSAT. Procurement activities for maintenance and evolution activities, such as specification and maintenance of requirements for new or enhanced Data Processing SystemsApplications Software components that are going to be implemented by external contractors monitor their detailed design and implementation generate the test plans, test specificationprocedures, perform the acceptance of the externally developed components, support the integration testing in the ground segment and the operational validation. Contribute to the definition and design of architectures of data processing ground segments and their components, their interfaces, and the validation and verification methods. Coordinationinputs to planning and preparation of releases. Coordination with other EUMETSAT Teams andor Contractors to prepare introduction of newupgraded components. Generation and maintenance of technical baseline documentation. Contribute to the operations of existing data processing ground segments. Participation in technical meetings and formal review. Analysis of the maintenance requirements and identification, procurement or implementation of the tools required to fulfil them. Settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures. Perform routine tasks in operational systems under configuration control such as Anomaly investigations, documentation and classification Participation in relevant Anomaly Review Boards Follow up of the delivery of SW resolutions for these anomalies Contribute to Configuration Management change control practices Contribute to building and distribution of application software releases and patches Verification of correct facility installation for the assigned facilities Contribute to the development, integration and configuration management of software developed by third parties, its installation, and configuration and testing Perform SW testing in a structured approach to verify that delivered SW is fulfilling the requirements or to demonstrate that problems have been corrected. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory Masters Degree in the relevant discipline. Significant experience in engineering of large, UNIX or LINUX based, complex, realtime data processing systems, including requirements specification, design, software maintenance or development, formal software testing and system integration. Very good technical writing skills, in particular in the area of formal technical documentation e.g. requirements specification and design documentation, test plans and procedures, maintenance procedures. Significant experience with Source code control systems e.g. Subversion, Git. Significant experience in software anomalies analysis, debugging, profiling, fixing and processing. The following skills would be highly desirable Experience with operating systems and application software upgrades andor porting to new platforms. Experience with Objectoriented software design, implementation, and maintenance, including the use of UMLSysML based tools for supportingdocumenting the design, at least at the architectural level. Good knowledge of web technologies and programming e.g. Apache, CGI, JavaScript, XML. Good knowledge of programming languages e.g. C, Java, Python. This role is routed in the mission of EUMETSAT and will provide the opportunity to work with leading IT, Space and Earth Observation organisations and domain experts to make a positive impact on society! Background EUMETSAT is evolving towards a datacentric approach for the provision of Earth Observation data services to users, based on big data technologies and architectures, including cloudoffered computing resources, applications and hosted processing capabilities Data as a Service, DaaS bringing the user to the data and allowing to perform processing centrally rather than downloading large amounts of data first. The Hosted Processing Services Coordinator will engage in the definition, testing and validation of a future hosted processing service offer and ensure the delivery and evolution of the validated service to users. Prime users of the service are Member State Meteorological Services, the EUMETSAT Satellite Application Facilities, and key partners such as ECMWF, developing and operating a variety of domain specific applications Duties Define a future EUMETSAT offer for hosted processing service, that is compatible with the available cloud resources and applicable service policy Define with users the preferred Collaborative Processing Environments for several applications of satellite data, such as for weather prediction and nowcasting, environmental and climate monitoring etc. Validate the EUMETSAT hosted processing offer based on selected use cases, including coordination of the availability and provisioning of required input datasets Ensure the delivery and evolution of the validated hosted processing service to users, with the support of engineers responsible for the maintenance and evolution of the underlying infrastructure and hybrid cloud management systems Develop and maintain a rolling user onboarding plan, establishing priorities and planning constraints such as data availability Coordinate and manage user onboarding to the hosted processing services, including assessing the use case including identification of suitable input data managing the setup of the required storage and compute resources in the cloud assisting on service issues Report on system performance, resource usage and needs and on the level of fulfilment of relevant Service Level Agreements based on KPIs Review user feedback and lead requirements evolution on the hosted processing service.
