In 2012 the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission slashed harvest limits for Atlantic menhaden despite having no reliable scientific basis for thinking the fishery was in trouble. Now, the ASMFC has a scientifically valid assessment of the menhaden's stock and it shows that the fishery is in no trouble.
