Nissan's U.S. sales rose more than 13 per cent in October, a sign that auto sales continue to be strong. The Japanese automaker said its Nissan and Infiniti brands sold just over 113,000 cars and trucks last month.

Chrysler, Nissan and Honda all reported U.S. sales gains last month as low gas prices and booming SUV and pickup truck sales drove people into dealerships. Chrysler said its U.S. sales rose 22 per cent to 170,480 for its best October since 2001, while both Nissan and Honda posted their best October ever.

Officials with Piedmont Natural Gas say they expect a milder winter this year and think natural gas bills will average $12 less a month for the company's typical South Carolina residential customer. The Greenville News reported that the Charlotte, North Carolina, utility says this year's forecast for November through March is very different from last season, when temperatures were about 10 percent colder than usual.

U.S. oil and gas prices are lower than shale producers would like right now, but famed Dallas energy financier T. Boone Pickens told a Houston audience that he sees the American energy boom continuing for many years to come and maybe another three decades or so. Pickens, who spoke at a panel with former Houston Mayor Bill White and others, said the oil and gas industry should receive more credit for the improving U.S. economy that has helped to stabilize global energy prices.
