Group Sow Housing: Practical Considerations

2013-10-15 21:31:00| National Hog Farmer

By Lee J. Johnston and Yuzhi Li West Central Research and Outreach Center, University of Minnesota When considering a change to group housing, the top-of-mind question for producers is: Can we reasonably expect to make this change without depressing sow performance and increasing our cost of production? This is a very difficult question to answer. Taking a very broad view of the topic, reviews of scientific studies and anecdotal reports in general suggest that there are no clear, repeatable advantages or disadvantages in sow performance when comparing group housing with individual stalls. read more

4 considerations for herbicide application in the fall

2013-10-02 18:53:00| Corn & Soybean Digest

Source: University of Missouri With corn and soybean harvest underway in all major producing states, farmers are thinking about herbicide applications this fall. Aside from weed management, there are other factors to be considered when applying herbicide after harvest including: spring weather uncertainty, impact on soil conditions, pest interactions. read more

Speed Considerations For Spurious Level Measurements With Spectrum Analyzers

2013-09-04 03:42:53| rfglobalnet Downloads

The measurement speed for spurious signal measurements is mainly defined by the spectrum analyzer sweep speed. With traditional swept spectrum analyzers and tight spurious limits the measurement can easily take hours or even a full day.By Kay-Uwe Sander

Airborne Antenna Considerations for C-Band Telemetry Systems

2013-08-29 12:53:57| rfglobalnet News Articles

The changeover of many test ranges from Sband to C-band telemetry implies the need to modify or replace current systems. Several antenna-related issues need to be considered in to order facilitate a smooth transition to C-band. Amongst these are changes in vehicle-induced pattern degradation, the effect on increased propagation loss on link budgets, and the potential need for multi-band antennas that also support legacy systems during the transition. This Paper discusses these issues for both existing telemetry systems modified for C-band and for new systems. Conformal and nonconformal antennas will be addressed in this discussion. By David Farr
