Record Number Of Stranded Sea Lion Pups Strains Calif Resources
2015-03-20 23:01:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
National Public Radio: There are more than two dozen pens at the Marine Mammal Care Center in San Pedro, Calif., and no vacancy. They're filled with more than a hundred sea lion pups, grouped by health condition. The pups in the first row of pens are swimming in small pools and sliding across the wet concrete. "These guys on this half of the facility are actually doing pretty well," says Lauren Palmer, the chief biologist at the center. "They're eating on their own. They're playing. They're porpoising." It's a...

Arctic Ice Extent has Reached its Limit: Lowest on Record
2015-03-19 22:04:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Nature World: With winter at its end, it appears that the extent of Arctic sea ice has reached its limit. Worryingly, it's the lowest extent ever seen, reaching only about 5.61 million square miles. What's more, this is also one of the earliest maximum extents ever reached, with most seen much further into the end of the season. Arctic sea ice is pretty self explanatory: it's frozen seawater that grows on the surface of the Arctic Ocean between fall and winter, and gradually recedes at the end of this period....
Arctic Sea Hits Record Low Winter Peak
2015-03-19 22:01:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Climate Central: Warm temperatures in parts of the polar regions kept sea ice levels depressed, and also contributed to the winter peak occurring much earlier than usual, the National Snow & Ice Data Center announced Thursday. The maximum normally isn't reached until early March, but was recorded about a week early this year, the NSIDC said. That low occurred on the backdrop of overall dwindling sea ice levels, fueled by global warming. The extent of Arctic sea ice is monitored by satellites throughout the year....
This Winter Was Warmest on Record
2015-03-19 17:44:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Agence France-Presse: This winter may have brought a deep freeze to much of the northeastern United States -- including record-breaking snowfall in Boston -- but it was the planet's warmest winter on record, climate scientists announced yesterday (March 18). The average global temperature from December to February was 1.42 degrees Fahrenheit (0.79 degrees Celsius) higher than the 20th-century average of 53.8 degrees F (12.1 degrees C), according to a newly released report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's...
