Hanford whistleblower case to be heard in Kennewick

The case of Hanford whistleblower Walt Ford will be heard this week after Bechtel National objected to a Department of Labor ruling in his favor. The Department of Labor said in a ruling made public in August that Bechtel National should pay several months of back wages, attorney fees and $25,000 to Ford, a millwright.

Hanford vit plant workers install agitators

Bechtel National workers have almost finished installing giant mixers, called agitators, inside tanks in the Hanford vitrification plant's Low Activity Waste Facility. The agitators, which measure up to 24 feet long and five feet wide, will keep radioactive liquids and solids well mixed in tanks that can be the size of backyard swimming pools.

Pedestrian hit by train in Hanford dies

About 12:40 p.m. Monday, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train hit the pedestrian, 38, as he was walking along the north-south tracks between Fifth and Sixth streets in Hanford. A train crew member said the man was walking south on the east side of the tracks, south of Sixth Street.
