Telenor and Axiata call off Asian operations merger blaming 'complexities'

(Telecompaper) Telenor Group said that it has reached a mutual agreement with Axiata Group to end discussions regarding a combination of their telecom and infrastructure assets in Asia. It said that over the last four months, both parties have been working on due diligence and finalising transaction agreements, aiming for completion in the third quarter of 2019. Because of "some complexities involved in the proposed transaction", they have mutually agreed to end the discussions.

(Telecompaper) Axiata said its 'Shifting Gear' strategy launched at the end of 2018 is starting to bear fruit, with a solid improvement in Q2 results. Revenues rose 3.7 percent year-on-year to MYR 6.2 billion, EBITDA increased 13.1 percent to MYR 2.3 billion, and net profit improved 12.2 percent to MYR 250 million.

(Telecompaper) Axiata's cash balance grew to MYR 6.8 billion in the first quarter of 2019, up from MYR 5.1 billion in 2018, following the M1 divestment which resulted in an estimated MYR 1.65 billion cash gain. Axiata agreed to sell its stake in Singapore operator M1 in the buy-out offer from shareholder Keppel.
