We are complementing our Earth Observation Mission Operations team with additional engineering support, delivering services to ESAESOC for the EarthCARE, Aeolus, BIOMASS and FLEX Missions. Therefore, we require Spacecraft Operations Engineers SOEs with a minimum of 2 years Spacecraft subsystem knowledge Data HandlingOBSMAOCSPowerThermal and experience in activities applicable to spacecraft operations. Depending on the mission, we need several SOEs with a wide range of operational experience. As a member of our SOE team working onsite at the European Spacecraft Operations Centre ESOC, you will be directly involved in the preparation of and eventual operation of hightechnology space missions. The positions are all fulltime, permanent and starting from midJanuary 2021 through to early 2021. The team will nominally be located at ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany. ResponsibilitiesDuties The general activities, which have to be performed by the SOEs, are familiarisation with the mission, the project specific characteristics and Ground Segment Documentation. You will participate in the Analysis and Design of Satellite Operations, prepare and validate Flight Control and Contingency Procedures, as well as support a Mission Management and Mission Planning Service. Support to the Mission Control System evolution and testing and participation in the team Training Programme and performing Mission Critical Operations should be expected. In delivering our Flight Control Support Service and performing an analysis of the Spacecraft Performance, you will be part of an outstanding Flight Control Team. Who you are You hold a University degree or equivalent education in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering. You have 2 years or more of experience working in satellite operations and operations preparation. Last, but not least your experience in Earth Observation Missions and Satellite Control Centres will be a huge plus! Crucial Skills Experience in activities applicable to spacecraft operations, specifically Platform knowledge, such as Data Handling, OBSM, AOCS, Power Thermal subsystems and Payload operations. Proficiency in English, both in speech and writing is expected, as is a teamplayer mentality and at the same time displaying the ability to work independently. Familiarity with operational simulators, especially the ones based on SimSat and with satellite control systems, in particular SCOS2000, would be a distinct advantage. Experience in the generation of Flight Procedures and validation, Satellite Verification Test planning execution and participation in LEOPs will also be a strong asset. Desirable Skills Some experience dealing with external interfaces, e.g. Project, Industry, PDGS, etc. and familiarity with MOIS, or a similar procedure generation tool. Specifically for the BIOMASS mission, experience with the AS250 Platform and for the FLEX mission, with the Proteus Platform would be distinct advantage. Job Description What we offer if you join our amazing team Competitive Salary Corporate Benefits Package Exciting relocation package if applicable Company events Main Responsibilities As Ground Stations Operations Engineer you will concentrate your activities on the following Participation in any necessary meetings, anomaly review boards, other system and facility ARBs as required, the ECP Review Board, Ops planning meetings and scheduling meetings and team coordination meetings Coordinating the service with other Service Providers in EUMETSAT Preparation of technical notes on subjects related to Ground Stations operations and evolutions For operational procedure SCPs, GCPs, Ops Guide development and maintenance Ensure that all aspects of EPS Ground station operations are correctly reflected in the EPS procedure sets and the EPS Ground Stations Operations Guide Maintenance of the Operational Ground Databases Definition and implementation of validation tests as necessary for updates to any procedures for which the Consultant is assigned as book captain Additionally, the successful candidate will coordinate Ground Stations operations, maintenance upgrade and anomaly investigation activities with relevant team members and external contractors also, provide inputs and contribute to the analysts to ensure that the controllers are trained in the relevant aspects of ground station operations and when necessary provide direct training. You will support your team by providing expertise for the analysis and design of the obsolescence upgrade of the ground Stations and coordinate the deployment and validation from the operations side providing expertise for all stages of systems and software upgrades, in coordination with other teams. As a part of your tasks will also be provision of expertise to the onsite periodic maintenance at Svalbard as required and maintenance of Systemlevel documents. You will provide OnCall service as Ground Stations Operations engineer if needed not expected in this Work Package participate in GS Teams activities, roles and interfaces definition provide backup to the Ground Stations Operations GEO Engineer as required and also, review documentation and provide inputs to future projects such as EPSSG, MTG, JCS, Metop A EOL plan, CDA future operational scenarios analysis. Among other tasks are the following Further analysis of the autotrack capabilities of the CDAs following the ACU upgrades and informing other teams within EUMETSAT of the results Review of and updates to EPSSG documentation concentrating on ground station operational aspects Define and maintain operational documentation for EPSSG ROP, OICDs, OPS Guides, OPS Procedures, OSV, etc. Participation in EPSSG reviews and test campaigns as required Successful Candidate Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring At least eight years experience in a realtime spacecraft operations environment At least eight years experience in the routine operations of large and complex ground stations preferably in an earth observation environment Experience of the preparation and use of operational procedures, databases, displays and documentation. Experience of the following would be an advantage Experience in the operations preparation and routine operations of Geostationary GEO andor Low Earth Orbit LEO satellite systems Experience of document management and configuration control processes Experience of development and upgrades within a 247 operations environment Experience in defining user interfaces for operations HMI, reports, etc. Experience in the configuration andor use of Space Link Extension SLE Experience in the use of Dataminer.
