MRT woes traced to corruption, says Tiangco

Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco yesterday accused Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II of using the Metro Railway Transit system as a milking cow of the ruling Liberal Party during his stint as secretary of the Department of Transportation and Communications . Tiangco, interim president of the United Nationalist Alliance , said Roxas cancelled almost all transport-related contracts of the government to accommodate favored suppliers of the administration.

Government clears MRT 7 project

Diversified conglomerate San Miguel Corp. may now seek funding support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency for the construction of the P62.7-billion Metro Rail Transit Line 7 , after the government released the remaining key state approvals for the project. Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio A. Abaya said the proponent of the multibillion-peso railway-construction venture has already received a copy of two government-issued requirements to financially close the deal.
