Vodafone Germany launches LTE-A services
2015-04-27 10:31:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Vodafone Germany has introduced LTE Cat-6 services in parts of Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden, Munich and Hannover, offering customers mobile download speeds of up to 225 Mbps, teltarif.de reports. Faster speeds are due to be available in Leipzig, Stuttgart, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Essen, Frankfurt am Main and Dortmund over the next month, because of bundling of 800 MHz and 2,600 MHz frequencies. Only users with data-only tariffs are supposed to get the full speed; the current Red smartphone tariffs have a speed limit of 100 Mbps. Vodafone Germany trialled LTE-A in Dresden with Swedish vendor Ericsson, combining 10 MHz of 800 MHz spectrum and 20 MHz of 2.6 GHz spectrum.

Intel unveils entry-level Atom SoC, LTE-A Cat 10 modem
2015-03-02 16:38:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Intel introduced at Mobile World Congress a new range of Atom processors for entry-level mobile devices. The Intel Atom x3 processor series (formerly code-named "SoFIA") offers 64-bit multi-core processors together with 3G or 4G connectivity. The SoC combines the applications processor, image sensor processor, graphics, audio, connectivity and power management components in a single system chipset, helping OEMS create full-fetured devices at affordable price points. Twenty companies, including Asus and Jolla, have committed to delivering Intel Atom x3 designs. Intel also introduced in Barcelona its first 14nm Atom SoC, the x5 and x7 processor series (formally code-named "Cherry Trail") for next-generation tablets and small-screen 2-in-1 computers. These offer 64-bit support for Windows and Android, Intel Gen 8 graphics and optional LTE Advanced connectivity. Customers for the x5 and x7 series include Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Toshiba, and the first devices are expected to be in the market in the first half of this year. Intel also announced its five-mode LTE Advanced Category 10 modem. The Intel XMM 7360 supports tri-band carrier aggregation and download speeds up to 450 Mbps. At Mobile World Congress, the company also demonstrated a pre-5G concept system that combines LTE with 802.11ad to deliver speeds of more than 1 Gbps.
