Veon grows underlying results in Q2, raises interim dividend

(Telecompaper) Veon has maintained its full-year outlook for a small increase in organic revenues and EBITDA, after reporting underlying growth in the second quarter. The company also announced a small increase in its interim dividend, to USD 0.12 per share from USD 0.11.

(Telecompaper) Last week's share price performances were positive enough to bring our European telecoms index back to a level we hadn't seen since the middle of May. Veon was the absolute winner, followed by Turk Telekom (+12%). The three Belgain shares in our basket showed strong recovery from recent weakness: Telenet (+12%), Proximus (+7.7%) and Orange BE (+6.9%). We also recorded some double digit losses, for Telekom Slovenije, Inmarsat and Polish Play Communications (-11%).

CK Hutchison will take sole control of Italian mobile joint venture Wind Tre with the acquisition of partner Veon's stake for €2.45 billion. The Hong Kong firm and Veon merged their Italian mobile businesses, Tre Italia and Wind respectively, in late 2016, each taking a 50% stake. Veon organic revenues rise but net loss widens in Q1

(Telecompaper) Total revenues dipped 1.4 percent lower from the year before to USD 2.250 billion, hurt by the devaluation of the Uzbek and Pakistani currencies. Organically, revenues lifted 3.2 percent, driven by operations in Russia, Pakistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan, partially offset by continued weakness in Algeria and Bangladesh. Revenues from mobile data meanwhile jumped almost 16 percent to USD 505 million. Total mobile customer numbers, excluding the company's Italian joint venture, advanced 1.8 percent year-on-year to 210 million.
Veon to sell Beeline Tajikistan to local shareholder

(Telecompaper) Veon Group plans to sell its subsidiary, the mobile operator Takom, working under the Beeline Tajikistan brand. Veon concluded an agreement on the sale of the Virgin Islands-based company Vimpelcom AG owning a 98 percent stake in Beeline Tajikistan, a spokesman for the company confirmed. The company Zet Mobile Limited, which already owns a 2 percent stake in Beeline Tajikistan, will acquire the rest of the shares.
