Windstream , a leading provider of advanced network communications, today announced the launch of its ultra-fast 1-Gigabit Internet service in four market areas. Starting today 1-Gig Internet service will be available to approximately 35,000 residential and small business customers in Lincoln, Neb.; Lexington, Ky.; Sugar Land, Texas and seven North Carolina communities .

US unveils new labels for broadband, mobile internet service

The Obama administration on Monday unveiled new labels for broadband and mobile Internet service, aimed at helping the nation's web users make price and service comparisons. The labels from the US Federal Communications Commission are similar to federally required nutrition labels on nearly all US foods or information on credit card billing statements and will include disclosures of all fees and add-on charges and service speed and reliability.

Google invested $60,000 in the project and plans to take it further by adding WiFi to other areas, it said in a written statement. An expansion at the Berkeley County recreational site is expected to start next year.

Limits on Internet Providers' Use of Data Advance at the FCC

Regulators tentatively voted Thursday to restrict how Internet service providers use information about their customers' online browsing, a proposal that cable and telephone companies say will benefit Google, Facebook Inc. and other Web companies not covered by the rules. The Federal Communications Commission proposal would require companies such as AT&T Inc., Verizon Communications Inc. and Comcast Corp. to get permission from subscribers before sharing information with other companies including advertisers.
