HPE appoints new CEO, reports beter-than-expected profit for Q4

(Telecompaper) Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) president Antonio Neri will become the company's CEO from 1 February, succeeding Meg Whitman, who will remain on the HPE board of directors. Whitman was appointed CEO of HP in September 2011. Since then, she has executed a five-year turnaround strategy, including the separation from HP Inc, the company's PC business. She also led the subsequent spin off and mergers of HPE's Enterprise Services and Software businesses, as well as strategic acquisitions including Aruba, SGI, SimpliVity and Nimble Storage.

(Telecompaper) Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has provided a strategic update looking forward and given its outlook for fiscal year 2017. CEO Meg Whitman reiterated HPE's vision of being the industry's leading provider of hybrid IT, built on a secure, next-generation, software-defined infrastructure that will "run customers' data centres today, bridge them to multi-cloud environments tomorrow, and power the emerging Intelligent Edge that will run campus, branch and Industrial IoT applications for decades to come." Following a number of strategic portfolio moves, including the spin-offs and mergers of the Enterprise Services and Software businesses, Whitman is confident the future HPE will have the right assets to achieve this vision, including core software and services capabilities.

HPE and Apple are very different companies this decade, having shifted their models from a strategic customer/innovation focus to one that's more tactical -- and tied far more closely to quarterly profit. They are hardly alone, and this unfortunate trend is not tied to any one industry or any one country. Firms increasingly are defined not by creative products but by complaining customers.
