HPE has invited the open source community to collaborate on its largest and most notable research project yet. The Machine focuses on reinventing the architecture underlying all computers built in the past 60 years.

I joined a bunch of analysts in discussing Hewlett Packard Enterprise's next move at a secret conclave last week. The company had just announced the sale of its IT services, which basically undid much of Mark Hurd's work as CEO. It already had sold off PCs and printers, more than undoing Carly Fiorina's earlier efforts. Granted, HPE spun it like it was an acquisition.
HPE to spin off IT services arm in joint venture with CSC

(Telecompaper) HP Enterprise has announced plans to spin off its IT services business in a joint venture with CSC. In the latest step in the company's transformation, CEO Meg Whitman said the group will focus going forward on its networking equipment and infrastructure business. The spin-off, expected to be completed by next March, will see HPE shareholders receive shares equal to 50 percent of the new company. The merged group will have annual revenues of around USD 26 billion and continue to serve HP#s existing customers. Mike Lawrie, the current head of CSC, will become CEO of the new company, and Whitman will join the Board of Directors. The new company's board will be split 50/50 between directors nominated by HPE and CSC. Mike Nefkens, the current EVP and GM of HPE's Enterprise Services business, will join the new company's executive team.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is to sell its majority stake in Indian IT services provider Mphasis to Blackstone Group, in a deal that will help the Palo Alto, California, company raise capital as well as continue to get services delivered from India. HPE said the purchase by Blackstone of its shares at rupees 430 a share values its 60.5 percent stake at about US$825 million.

(Telecompaper) Hewlett Packard Enterprise said it has agreed to its equity stake in Bangalore IT services Mphasis to the Blackstone Group. Blackstones has agreed to purchase at least 84 percent of HPE's stake in Mphasis for INR 430 per share. The private investor group will also buy the maximum amount of the remaining 16 percent stake that is permitted by Indian securities laws, subject to the outcome of a mandatory tender offer between signing and closing.
