RTCC: Governments have 30 years left before the chance of avoiding dangerous levels of global warming is lost, say scientists in a new report. They warn that at current emission rates the levels of atmospheric greenhouse gases will lock in warming of above 2C by the mid-2040s. And despite global calls to curb fossil fuel use, last year the scientists say emissions from fossil fuel combustion and cement grew 2.3% to a record high of 36.1 billion tonnes. Next year they predict emissions will rise...
Hooray for the Earth: International action has helped the ozone layer

Post Gazette: Bad news about the health of planet Earth has kept up a steady drumbeat lately just this week the National Audubon Society released a report on the effect of climate change on birds concluding that as many as 314 out of 588 North American species will lose more than half of their climatic range by 2080. Of those, 126 are considered climate endangered. Yet amid the warning drums, a rallying trumpet of hope has sounded, not on climate change directly but a related problem. According to a U.N. scientific...

15 years of carbon dioxide emissions on Earth mapped
2014-09-12 10:04:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
ScienceDaily: World leaders face multiple barriers in their efforts to reach agreement on greenhouse gas emission policies. And, according to Arizona State University researchers, without globally consistent, independent emissions assessments, climate agreements will remain burdened by errors, self-reporting, and the inability to verify emissions progress. Now, an international research team led by ASU scientists has developed a new approach to estimate CO2 emissions from burning fossil fuels -- one that provides...

Guardian: Friends of the Earth has denied dropping its opposition to nuclear power after the BBC reported that the green group had made a huge and controversial shift in its stance. A news bulletin on Radio 4s Today programme said that the group had revealed it was no longer opposed to nuclear power in principle, describing as a significant shift for the organisation, which has campaigned against nuclear power since it was founded in 1969. Roger Harrabin, the BBCs environment analyst, reported:...
