The EUMETSAT Early Careers Employment Programme ECEP offers opportunity for recent graduates to take that first step into an exciting career in this industry. We are looking for a Junior Ground Station Systems Engineer to support the development and or upgrade of local and remote ground stations. What youll be doing Support the definition, execution and evaluation of tests for upgrades or refurbishment of ground stations Contribute to relevant aspects of ground segment and system integration, verification and validation tests Support the definition and control the implementation of integrated maintenance plans for ground stations Support the definition of requirements and specifications for ground station upgrades or new ground stations Contribute to procurements of new ground stations, upgrades and maintenance and support services, and followup the execution of contracts Support the assembly, integration and testing of new ground stations procured from industry Acquire knowledge on CCSDS standards for ground stations engineering and hands on experience on link budgets engineering and supporting tools. What we offer The initial contract will be under the EUMETSAT Early Career Employee Programme ECEP, for two 2 years with grade A1 on the EUMETSAT salary scale. Subject to successful performance, a further contract of 5 years duration will be awarded in a post graded A2A4. Additional contracts may be awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisational requirements. In addition, the successful candidate will receive Flexible working time including additional flexileave Full medical coverage for employee and family 30 days of annual leave 14.5 days public holidays Training and development support Relocation allowance and support if applicable Requirements Qualifications A University degree in Systems Engineering or equally relevant discipline. Skills and Experience required Strong motivation to develop towards full professionalism in an international environment in the area of Ground Stations System Engineering Readiness to learn expand the own knowledge combined with excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work in a team For this role some of the following would be advantageous Background in system engineering in electronics or telecommunication as much as possible related to ground stations Initial experience in testing, integrating, verifying andor validating systems. This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisations Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users worldwide. EUMETSAT also operates several Copernicus missions on behalf of the European Union and provide data services to the Copernicus marine and atmospheric services and their users. EUMETSAT is deploying cloudbased data processing systems associated with multimission data lakes containing data from all the satellite systems it exploits for its own purpose or on behalf of the EU Copernicus programme. These systems support system operations and offer new big data services to end users, e.g. hosted processing on or online product customisation, in the new paradigm bringing the users to the data. A first portfolio of cloudbased big data services will become operational in 2021. As a member the Data Processing Systems Engineering Competence Area of the System Engineering and Projects SEP Division, the Junior Cloudbased Data Processing Engineer will support the design, developmentupgrade, verification and validation of cloudbased Data Processing systems, applications and services, including the associated procurements, and support their maintenance and evolutions during operations. What youll be doing Contribute to the definition and implementation of EUMETSAT data processing systems and related services making use of cloud technologies and solutions, including cloudbased product reformatting and customisation tools Define and maintain service and system requirements and specifications for the development and upgrade of cloudbased data processing applications and systems Support and followup developmentsprocurements of cloudbased applications and systems and their Integration, Verification Validation IVV testing inside the EUMETSAT fullscale Data Processing Systems Support the assessment of the relevance of emerging technical concepts and technologies to EUMETSAT business Contribute to the definition and planning of the transition of cloudbased data processing systems and services to full operational status Support the Competence Area Manager in defining plans for big data processing systems and services and roadmaps for harmonising engineering, maintenance and evolutions of Data Processing Systems across all satellite systems exploited by EUMETSAT.
