According to U.S. EPA's 2014 annual Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) report, 84% of 25 billion pounds of toxic chemical waste managed at U.S. industrial facilities was not released into environment due to use of such preferred waste management practices as recycling, energy recovery, and treatment. Remaining 16% was released to air, water, or placed in some type of land disposal – most of which are subject to regulatory requirements designed to limit human and environmental harm.

Two Arkansas departments made numerous recommendations for changes to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's final Clean Power Plan proposal in comments submitted last week. The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality and the Arkansas Public Service Commission submitted their final Clean Power Plan comments using input from their stakeholder task force Thursday afternoon.

For several weeks now, city and state officials have traded barbs over who is ultimately responsible for the toxic water that's inundated Flint, Michigan. In an emergency administrative order, the Environmental Protection Agency slammed the city of Flint, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and the State of Michigan, saying they are all responsible for the lead contamination in the city's water.
