Terrace city council holds off on gas pipeline support letter

Terrace city council voted last night to withhold a letter of support for pipeline developer TransCanada until after a meeting with the provincial government next week concerning a revenue sharing agreement with northern local governments. TransCanada official Dave Kmet, who is working on one of two company northern natural gas pipeline projects, told council he is trying to raise a message of support from municipalities to counter the controversial and negative press generated by protests and opposition to projects.

CIty Council Finance Committee sends Keane pension issue back to full council

Update: After an hour discussion this morning, the matter of going forward and asking the court to sort out Keane's pension will head back to City Council. Becton said with Keane's pending departure as well as the replacement of a board member, it perhaps wasn't good business sense to pursue the matter.

Is trouble brewing between City Council and the schools?

This spring, Council publicly blasted Superintendent William R. Hite Jr. and other officials for what it said was a lack of transparency and information, but finally agreed to parcel out $70 million in new money for the district. But recently, and in private, Council President Darrell L. Clarke launched another salvo at Hite, ordering more information on a recent series of administrative hires the superintendent has made, and reminding him that $25 million of the district's money has strings attached - with final approval still to come from Council.
