We are currently looking for a Spacecraft Operations Engineer Mars Express to support our customer in Germany. Spacecraft Operations Engineer Mars Express Key Tasks and Responsibilities As part of the the MARS Express Mission Control Team you will provide support primarily for Mission Planning operations and operational software tools. You will have the following responsibilities Contribute to the generation of routine mission planning products Contribute to the mediumterm planning cycle in interaction with Flight Dynamics, and with the other Flight Control SOEs for spacecraft preservation Support mission planning within ESOC, with the Science Operations Centre, part of the ESAC Science Ground Segment, and with the scientific community Contribute to the development andor maintenance of mission planning tools specification and validation of externallyprocured tools as well as programming for evolution of internal tools Follow up anomalies, test upgrades and new configurations of Mission Planning tools Contribute to streamlining the planning and commanding workflow support the automation of mission operations Contribute to onboard softwareOnBoard Control Procedures improvement, validation and management Perform checking and loading of routine operations products to the spacecraft, on a rotation basis Support spacecraft anomaly resolution or implementation of operational workarounds Contribute to documentation and reporting of mission operations Provide oncall support for spacecraft and mission planning Provide engineering and operations support for designated payload or platform elements Support the Chief Mission Planner andor Spacecraft Operations Manager in adapting operations planning and concepts. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree in Engineering, Science or a related subject Several years experience in spacecraft operations, mission planning, OnBoard Control Procedures or space science Solid understanding of general space mission constraints data, power, attitude, thermal etc Good computer skills and some experience with UNIX andor LINUX operating systems Good knowledge and practical experience of Java as well as proficiency with mathematical packageseg. MatLab, SciLab would be an asset Fluency in English is mandatory, knowledge of another European language is an advantage. This job is located in Darmstadt. JOB DESCRIPTION Spacecraft Operations Engineer Responsibilities Duties Tasks General The MARS Express Mission Control Team requires a Spacecraft Operations Engineer SOE to provide support primarily for Mission Planning operations and operational software tools. Qualifications Suitable candidates should hold a University degree in Engineering, Science or a related subject and preferably have some experience in spacecraft operations, mission planning or space science. Required knowledge Candidates should be systemsminded and have a good understanding of general space mission constraints data, power, attitude, thermal etc Some experience of spacecraft operations, mission planning or OnBoard Control Procedures would be an advantage. Candidates should be able to work independently, reliably and according to schedule for the set of planning products they will regularly be entrusted to process. Capability to manage and operate planning processes and tools in a systematic and configurationcontrolled manner is mandatory, together with the will to learn in detail all tools and possibilities of a complex planning system. Candidates should have a good level of computer skills and some experience with UNIX andor LINUX operating systems. Good knowledge and practical experience of Java would be of significant advantage.The candidates shall have interest to maintain and improve the custom planning tools Java, but aso ML, PERL, UNIX scripts. Curiosity drills into Mars, collects first ever sample of extraplanetary bedrock

After a few weeks of preparatory maneuvers, Mars rover Curiosity has finally gathered a sample of Martian bedrock -- the first time an autonomous rover has drilled into the surface of another planet. The sample obtained will now be tested by the rover's on-board science laboratory and will hopefully return evidence of Mars' wet and wild history.
