Softbank's FY revenues up 5.5% while profit falls 7.8%
2013-05-01 02:12:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Japanese communications provider Softbank saw its net income for the year ended 31 March fall 7.8 percent to JPY 289.40 billion from JPY 313.75 billion in the previous financial year, which was impacted by sales of Yahoo! shares in US and the Renren IPO. Net sales totalled JPY 3.38 trillion, up 5.5 percent from JPY 3.20 trillion a year earlier due to increased telecom service revenue, primarily from steady growth in the number of mobile phone subscribers. Mobile sales were JPY 2.28 trillion, up 6.2 percent as the company gained 3.53 million new mobile customers in the year. Broadband revenues, however, fell 4.9 percent to JPY 163.43 billion due to decreases in the number of subscribers and ARPU for Yahoo! BB ADSL, which has a relatively higher ARPU than Yahoo! BB hikari with Flet's. Subscribers for the latter increased by 44,000 to 4.25 million while the number of ADSL subscribers fell by 428,000 over the year to bring the total to 2.17 million. Fixed-line sales grew 5.3 percent to JPY 387.24 billion owing to an increase in provision of telecommunication lines to group companies and sales related to projects for installing telecommunications signal transfer stations. Internet culture sales were JPY 335.64 billion, up 14.3 percent, driven by revenue from promotion advertising, at Yahoo Japan.
