Facebook reports jump in messaging, softer ad revenues in countries hit by Covid-19

(Telecompaper) Facebook said it's seen an increase in usage of its services during the coronavirus crisis, especially in hard-hit countries such as Italy. However, the increase is mainly in messaging, a service it does not monetise, while ad revenues on the social network have softened due to the slowdown in economic activity.

3 Group customer base falls 5% in 2019, revenues still up 12%

(Telecompaper) CK Hutchison reported 40.6 million active customers at its European mobile operations at the end of 2019, down 5 percent from a year earlier as tough competition in Italy offset growth in other markets. Annual revenues at the 3 Group were still up 12 percent to HKD 87.5 billion and 17 percent higher in local currency thanks to the acquisition of 100 percent of Wind Tre in Italy.

Tencent revenues, profit soar in Q4, supported by smartphone games, cloud services and ads

(Telecompaper) The operating profit jumped 65 percent CNY 28.60 billion, with the margin rising to 27 percent from 20 percent, while the profit attributable to equity holders soared 52 percent to CNY 21.58 billion. Capex for the quarter also soaredm by 270 percent to CNY 16.87 billion.

U.S. dominates global SVOD revenues

According to Strategy Analytics, SVOD revenue continues to be highly concentrated in a few markets. Consumer spend on SVOD services globally was $53.34B (47.55B) in 2019. Of this, the U.S. accounted for 43%.

Telecom Italia revenues down 6.6% in Q4, misses profit target and launches 2020-22 business plan

(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia (TIM) posted a 6.6 percent year-on-year decline in revenues to EUR 4.0 billion in the fourth quarter, with improved results at its TIM Brasil unit offset by a fall of EUR 291 million (-7.6% year on year) at its domestic unit. TIM's EBITDA for the quarter came to EUR 1.7 billion, down 1.6 percent compared to Q4 2018 on an organic basis, with a domestic decline of 12.8 percent largely offset by a strong performance in Brazil, where it's teaming up with Telefonica to bid for Brazilian operator Oi's mobile business.
