(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia (TIM) is preparing to lead Italy's digital revolution in close collaboration with other companies, said the company's CEO Amos Genish at an event in Turin. Revealing that TIM will unveil a new three-year business plan to position the group as a "pure digital player and not a telecoms operator" in February or March 2018, Genish said TIM is in the best position in Italy to lead the next wave of digital transformation in view of its existing EUR 4 billion investment and a determination to focus on future-proof technology rather than legacy networks.

TIM board approves new Canal Plus content-based joint venture

(Telecompaper) The board of Telecom Italia (TIM) has given the go-ahead to the creation of a broadcasting joint venture with Vivendi's pay-TV channel Canal Plus. The main aim of the joint venture is to design and implement the premium video content offer that TIM will offer its customers to speed up the development of fibre connectivity, said the operator in a statement. TIM's leading shareholder Vivendi has frequently stated that it's looking to use its stake to create a southern European media empire and the move is "an important step forward in the strategy of convergence between telecommunications and media", said TIM's new CEO Amos Genish.
