Oakura is the latest recipient of a new cell tower which will boost cellphone and wireless broadband reception in the area. Under the Rural Broadband Initiative Vodafone in conjunction with Chorus and the New Zealand Government have installed 30 new cell sites and upgraded 27 existing cell towers throughout the country in the past year.

On Monday, Blackstone Group LP announced that its Phoenix Tower International portfolio company had purchased T4U Holding Brasil S.A. Phoenix intends to merge the business, which includes more than 500 wireless towers, into its Brazilian operating company. Along with the 529 existing towers, PTI will gain a pipeline of over 250 wireless tower sites under construction "for all of the major wireless operators in Brazil."

Verizon Communications Inc is open to divesting its network's assets including its cell towers, the company's chief financial officer said on Wednesday. Verizon, which in February completed a $130 billion deal to buy Vodafone's stake in Verizon Wireless and get full ownership over the company, has previously announced plans to trim some aspects of its portfolio.
