Brazil mobile subscriptions fall by 1.7 mln in June

(Telecompaper) Brazil ended June with 282.45 million active mobile telephony lines, down by 1.7 million from the previous month, according to data published by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel). In the sixth month of 2015, pre-paid accesses totalled 211.43 million (74.85% of the total) and post-paid 71.02 million (25.15%). All the major operators lost subscribers in June, with only the smaller providers Nextel and Algar showing small gains. Vivo remained market leader with 82.65 million customers (29.26%), down from 83.08 million in May. It was followed by TIM Brasil with 74.60 million customers (26.41%), down by 674,000 over the month. Claro Brasil lost almost 400,000 customers for a total 71.20 million (25.21%), and Oi shed just over 300,000 to reach 50.23 million (17.78%). Nextel ended the month with 2.08 million (0.74%) and Algar Telecom/CTBC had 1.27 million customers (0.45%).

LTE subscriptions reach 635 mln worldwide at end March - GSA

(Telecompaper) GSA, the Global mobile Suppliers Association, confirmed that LTE subscriptions continue to grow faster than any other mobile communications system technology. Analysing Q1 subscriptions data provided by Ovum, GSA noted that in 3 successive quarters LTE subscription net additions have outpaced any other mobile communications technology. There were 635 million LTE subscriptions worldwide on 31 March. LTE subscriptions increased by 123.7 million in Q1, which is over 58 percent higher than for 3G/WCDMA-HSPA gaining 77.9 million. GSM subscriptions fell 100 million in the quarter. A total number of 393 operators have commercially launched LTE systems in 138 countries, according to GSA data announced in April.
